the ever-growing wish list

>> Friday, January 21, 2011

and now yet another piece of procrastination. being a broke college student has encouraged my head to fill with an ever-growing wish list of random items, necessary and unnecessary. since i can't get any of these items until my paychecks build up and i cover bills and groceries first, i write the list so as not to forget and as a motivational tool to spend as little of the money i do have as possible on frivolous things. so here it is:

  • tea kettle
  • shopping spree at urban outfitters
  • a travel mug
  • road trips: irvine, chico
  • vinyl from boo boo records
  • daisy by marc jacobs
  • polaroid film

note to self

1. it is important to be happy for other people when they're able to do what's best for themselves. even if it means they have less time for you.

2. sometimes you just gotta let go of those impending due dates and that to-do-list-cycle. stop dwelling and take a look at what's right in front of you.

3. when it feels like everyone has forgotten you, just remember: there's nothing wrong with a little me-time.

why this weekend was so good

>> Sunday, October 24, 2010

instead of having to drive 3 1/2 hours to go home for the weekend and 3 1/2 hours back to school just to have a bunch of homework left to finish sunday night, my parents came to me. it was basically a 24-hour visit, but it was a much needed 24-hour visit. sometimes i get caught up in all these little school things that i forget how much i miss them. so we packed as much as we could into this weekend and this is why it was so good:

-lunch at the best pub in SLO (according to me and erin). yummmm turkey burgers and fries.
-wine tasting with my mom, who then but a BUNCH of bottles and left two behind for me to enjoy.
-drove out to avila valley barn to pick out some good produce and a giant pumpkin to carve with my sister.
-grocery shopping with my dad cuz my mom wanted to watch the giants' game (kind of a role reversal, huh?).
-mom's cooking! we had a delicious spaghetti meal with lots of extra sauce that my mom separated into containers and put in the freezer for some quick and easy meals in the future. such a mom thing :D
-marlee stayed the night at my place and we watched 50 first dates. adam sandler, always a classic.
-woke up early this morning and made a delicious strawberry-banana-mango smoothie to start the day.
-my parents came back over to watch the 49ers game, but my cable's lame and wasn't broadcasting it. so we were forced to listen to it on the radio, which was kinda nice and simple in a comforting way.
-while we listened marlee and i carved our pumpkin and baked the seeds.
-my dad went with my to get a new tire for my bike and now i can ride to school again!

all in all, it was a productive, funny, family-filled weekend that i really needed. i still ended up saving all my homework for sunday night, but i don't really mind. surprisingly, i miss them already.
this picture isn't from this weekend, but it's my favorite family photo of our recent alaskan adventure.

procrastination.

>> Sunday, August 2, 2009

so here i am, sitting in the library and avoiding the studying i should be doing for an important dynamics midterm which will take place tomorrow morning. yuck. i feel like getting my study materials together and actually arriving at the library is step one of this unfortunate situation, and considering there are only two other steps (the actually studying and then the taking of the exam) i have decided to reward myself with some quality time with my dear friend, LEON (my laptop). so here i am, back where we started.

also my thoughts have finally arrived and are ready to be shared with al of you, but let me start by answering your questions =]

1. here's a list of artists i am in love with at the moment
-this beautiful song by m. ward of she & him
-and one song in particular from friendly fires with a perfectly matching video

2. lollipops... i love sour things and i feel like a sour-ish peach lollipop would be absolutely delicious right now. they always make peach candy so sweet, so sour peach would make me very happy.

3. summer and daycare go hand in hand for me. my best friend and i would bring "boredom packs" with us everyday. we were never really bored at daycare so the packs weren't even completely necessary, but we loved them. each pack had to include the following:
-silly putty
-a deck of cards
-i feel like we each had watches or something too
-a rock to play hopscotch with
-and anything we found outside that was worth keeping or a little toy from home
